Only met Tom once when the whole family went to Tampa for my brother John's wedding and Tom and his wife were there. For whatever reason we hit it it off--must have been that salesman technique he had but over the almost 20 years we stayed in touch with cards and a very rare phone call.
He will be missed by me and I wish the family my deepest sympathies as you grieve over his passing.

Tom was certainly a loving, doting husband who held you dear to his heart and spent every day living life full,. his life was full of love and concern for you. I have no doubt from his heavenly home he will continue to watch over you, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren .. I can already hear his “ heaven issued phone” ringing, checking in on you ( and your quilting buddies) making sure you are safe and taking care of yourself. Today the Earth is a lonelier, less happy place because our friend Tom McGrath is no longer with us. Today, Heaven is full of wit and laughter because our friend Tom is there, bringing smiles to his friends, old and new.
We first met Tom nearly 25 years ago [on a golf course, believe it or not]. Tom had lost a piece of golfing equipment on the course and enlisted me and the two 10-year-old girls I had with me to look for it. We did find it and we found a new, very special friend in Tom McGrath. As a bonus, Tom took us to his home to meet one of the loveliest and lovable persons you will ever know, his wife Patricia. Since then, Tom and Pat have made our many trips from Indiana to Florida extra special to look forward to because of them.
Even though Tom was my senior by 9 years, he often gave me lessons on the tennis court and of course, the golf course. His putter shaved many strokes off his score card. Tom delighted in telling the best jokes and could tell them so well, I always would go back home to Indiana with new joke material, but I couldn’t tell them nearly as well as he did . The other crafts person in his family, of course, was Pat. Her craftsmanship when it came to sewing is fantastic and she was a big member of the McGrath selling machine team.

My buddy Tom will be sadly missed with his tremendous sense of humor and that smile that was devious at times that made you just laugh at times. He certainly would tell you how he felt without mincing words. He was funny, smart, and absolutely lovable He was a great family man, he absolutely loved his wife Pat, his best friend and did everything to make her happy. He loved his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, a true dedicated and loving dad, and pop pop. I could talk to him for hours, old times, new old times, and Philly sports teams, even though he was a traitor at times with the Rays, and Bucs lol!! On game days he’d wear a Phillies or eagles shirt with a rays and bucs hat lol! He was a great husband, father, pop pop, brother, and your best friend. He was funny, loving, witty, and loved life. He was also a very tough man, survived so many health issues and fought for his health. At times he’d have you upset or crying because he was completely honest with you, 5 minutes later he had you laughing and you loving him, he was one of a kind. He was everyone’s best friend with that smile and witty comments. Life here on earth won’t be the same without him, I’m heartbroken and sad, I haven’t stopped crying since he left us. I’ll talk to him still, and tell him he’s missed and he’s loved. If more people were like Tom, we’d have a better earth. Heaven has a gained quite a character, I wish I could I could hear all the laughter up there. Tom, I love and miss you so much and thank you being a great and loving friend, my life was better with you in it. God speed and tell the Lord thanks for having you in our lives, it was a wonderful ride. God bless you rest easy and bless your family and friends.

About four years ago I met Tom. I sensed right off the bat that he was a character. Tom was not just an ordinary guy. He had such a charismatic personality that intrigued everyone he talked to. His priority to God and his family took precedent in his life. He was a proud veteran who so loved this country. I wish I had more time to enjoy Tom’s stories and laughs.
