Sheila J. Messick's Obituary
Sheila Jo Messick of St. Petersburg, Fla., was called home to Heaven on Dec. 1, 2015. She was born May 13, 1949, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to William and Margaret Messick.
Sheila was a 1967 graduate of East Ridge High School in East Ridge, Tenn., and attended the University of Tennessee of Chattanooga. Following her academic studies, she started her career as a deputy for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee. After moving to St. Petersburg in 1978, Sheila joined the Florida Highway Patrol. While at the FHP’s Pinellas Park office, she worked a variety of jobs, which included duty officer, dispatcher and chief clerk. She retired from the FHP in 2002. Sheila’s other law enforcement experience included working as a dispatcher for the Treasure Island and Indian Rocks Beach police departments.
Shelia was an avid movie watcher, enjoyed scrapbooking and playing computer games. Her favorite time of year was Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her beloved tradition was to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with her son and decorate Christmas trees in every room of the house during the holiday season.
Sheila was a wonderful mother and an exceptionally caring person. She would routinely put the needs of others before her own. A devout Christian, Sheila lived her life according to the principle of the Golden Rule, and this what she will be remembered for.
She is survived by her son, William Thomas Messick, and many, many friends, who will all miss her greatly.
Sheila will be remembered at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastors Everett and Jon Farris will preside.
