Bob Armbruster was an unforgettable character and good friend from the time we became co-workers at the East West Center in Honolulu. A conversation with Bob was usually a crackup. For example, there was the one about his calling out to a restaurant waiter whose name we didn’t know: “Garçon garçon “ intentionally mispronounced for help with a fully packed ketchup bottle (the point of this oft repeated story was to mispronounce the French word Garçon ) . Bob was a good friend and gave good advice when asked . I have missed him since we left Oahu in 1970. So sad to hear about your loss Nancy, Tom, Chris and grandchild.

There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone the light remains. That would be true of Bob Armbruster. What a blessing it was to have been friends with Bob. He was awesome. He delighted in making everyone around him feel special and comfortable. He was a great story teller and was cheerful, charming and enthusiastic. Bob had a rich sense of humor which was contagious. He was a good listener who shared words of encouragement. Bob was a friend that you could always count on. I am so sorry to learn of Bob's passing. He was a man of tremendous warmth, empathy, and enthusiasm, who, almost coincidentally, possessed the talent, intelligence, and vision to become a leader among the small group of editors and writers who raised university magazines and communications to an unprecedented level of excellence. I am privileged to have known him as a colleague and friend for more than 40 years. He was an inspiration to all of us, and he is missed.
