Miriam D. Sassaman's Obituary
Sassaman, Miriam D., 97, of St. Petersburg, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday May 26th, 2013. She came to the St. Petersburg area in 1924. She graduated from Stetson College in Deland in 1936 with a degree in Mathematics. She worked for many years beside her husband Verne A. Sassaman at Sassaman's Nursery then went on to her career as a math teacher for over 40 years. During her career she also served as a guidance counselor, vice principal, and principal at Northside Christian School for whom she also authored a math book. Miriam was a life long member of First Baptist Church in St. Petersburg where she taught Sunday School for many years. After retirement she continued to tutor students at St. Pete College and continue the education of current teachers at Northside Christian. She enjoyed traveling and furthering her education. She is preceded in death by her husband Verne A. Sassaman, daughter Ruth Ann Cox, and son Kenneth L. Sassaman. She is survived by her sons Douglas E. Sassaman (wife Janet), and James F. Sassaman, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 1-2pm Friday May 31st at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Suncoast Hospice. She was the best Mom in the world.
