John was a good man and beloved member of our family. He and my Mom met and married in Maine in 1988. They set out for Florida and built a wonderful life together. I will be eternally grateful for the tender care he provided to my mom when her illness progressed to the point that she was dependent on John for nearly all of her physical needs. John made a commitment to me on the day that I graduated from the Police Academy that he would always love and take care of my mom as they were getting ready to make their move to Florida. John more than kept his promise to me and was an amazing husband to my mom, step dad to me and my brothers and “Grampa John” to our children. I will forever cherish the yearly trips that John and Ma made to New Hampshire in their RV. As was our tradition, John would join me on patrol on busy weekend nights - and he became a favorite among the officers and civilian staff at the PD. The last time John made the trip to New Hampshire was four years after my mom passed away. John knew that I was being promoted to Police Chief and he told me that “I was there when you graduated from the police academy as a rookie officer and there was no way that I would miss seeing you rise to Police Chief.” Sadly, that was the last time that John was able to make the trip as age was creeping up on
John and the long drive took a lot out of him. Cheryl and I loved John like a father and he will forever hold a special place in our hearts. You are going to be sadly missed, John, but we know that you will be reunited with Ma, Dickie and Eddie. Godspeed, John.
