Birth date: Sep 17, 1954 Death date: Oct 28, 2025
With great sadness and love, we announce the passing of James Robert Sutton, lovingly known as Jimmy, on October 28, 2025 at the Suncoast Hospice (Brookside) in Palm Harbor, Florida. Jimmy was born on September 17, 1954 in Vernon Read Obituary
Let's each honor Jimmy by working with a newcomer. I'm sure that would please him.
Jimmy was the kind of person that always was looking out for the underdog. He would do anything he could to help the newcomer.I remember first meeting him in nineteen eighty two.He was full of life kind of bouncing off the walls, but we continued our friendship up until the very end.I had the privilege of being his sponsor the last few years and he will be deeply missed but never forgotten
Jimmy gifted me this basic text while doing service for H&I. I remember us looking at the sky afterwards and admiring it. Of course he said “wait a second, let me get something from the trunk for you” and handed me this hand painted basic text. l will cherish it for the rest of my time on earth, and pass it along as he did. His memory will live on forever!
Sponsor, my sponsor. I met Jimmy at 7 months clean at the noon group over at Indian Rocks. I’d see him every year at Christmas break when I was down visiting over the holiday break. When I retired and became a snowbird I joined Welcome Home and was taken into the loving arms of Jimmy and Bert. Jimmy became my sponsor 18 months ago. I’m grateful for his love and guidance, grateful for the gift of 11 winters hanging around observing Jimmy ‘in action’. The term, ‘the power of example’ was conceived to describe Jimmy’s devotion to serving his fellow addicts. He loved us not despite the fact we were addicts, but rather, he loved us because we were addicts.

Jimmy was a huge inspiration to many over the years! My fondest memories of Jimmy are from the friendships he shared with the recovery community; he’d help anyone off the street to a home and show them the way to a new way of life.
He bought gifts for my daughter Ella when she was just newborn baby. Never forget the large stuffed Winnie the Poo that giggled when you push the belly! Jimmy always there to celebrate the special days! RIP Jimmy and give all our loves in Heaven a big hug. 🫂 ♥️miss you! Anna & Ella

I met Jimmy a little over 17 years ago the first time I walked into the Welcome Home Group of NA. He welcomed me with open arms and has been there for me ever since. Welcome Home was my Home Group for the next 5 1/2 years and I am so grateful for the love and care given to me by everyone. Jimmy definitely had a zest for life and showed all of us how to have fun in recovery. He gave me this Chiefs BBQ apron this past August at my 17 year anniversary celebration and I will cherish it forever. After the Bucs kicked the Chiefs butts in the Super Bowl in 2021, I have received a text from Jimmy saying "Bucs/Chiefs Super Bowl this year, they deserve a chance at redemption ya know!!" lol!! I definitely miss seeing him around and hearing his words of wisdom. RIP brother, until we meet again. Love ya mang!!
