Dr. James Horace Cleary's Obituary
James Horace Cleary M.D.: Born to James S. & Emma K. Cleary, July 25, 1924 in Oneonta, NY, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016. He grew up in their Oneonta home with Brother Bob and Sister Muriel. He was educated in the Oneonta public school system where he was awarded many accolades as an honor student. He then attended Hartwick College, and then attended Brown University for Meteorology, until joining the Army Air Corps in 1942 when he was assigned to Radar Installations. He completed his WWII service and was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corp. He then went back to Hartwick College and earned his pre Med Degree and then graduated Albany Medical School choosing to become a surgeon. He then took his talents to the Veterans Hospital in Albany, NY. He then transferred from the Albany VA to the Bay Pines Veterans Hospital. He was then promoted to Chief Surgical Staff and served there until his retirement. He shared his retirement years with his significant other; Mary Bowie and visits from his brother Robert. They enjoyed bridge night, Tae concert series at the Ruth Eckerd Hall, American Stage and the Big Band Series at Busch Gardens. He lived his life and final years in the home he built in 1966 here in St. Petersburg. He is survived by his children: Lisbeth Cleary Burge, James W. Cleary, Gregory A. Cleary, Kristen P. Cleary, Jennifer and William A. Cleary; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. There will be a memorial service held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:00am.
