Irene Vann's Obituary
Irene M. Vann was born January 12, 1923 in Chicago, IL to Irene and Jessie Moon. She is preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, her husband, George Vann and son, James Vann. She graduated from Morton HS in Berwyn, IL where she met her future husband George. They had two sons, Gary and James moving to Bridgeview, IL to start their family and then settling in Dolton, IL for George's work at Nalco Chemical Company in South Chicago. Besides being a homemaker, Irene enjoyed working for the Hammond Indiana Times as a community news correspondent for Riverdale and Dolton. Upon George's passing in 1980, she retired to St. Petersburg, Florida where she resided until moving into Tierra Pines Center in Largo in 2017. Irene is survived by her beloved son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Georgiana of Michigan, her special niece, Claudia Zikuda (Dennis) of Gulfport, FL, four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in St. Petersburg on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 10:30 am at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. As per her final wishes, a Celebration of her Life will be held with the immediate family in Michigan and a private burial at St. Benedict's Catholic Cemetery in Illinois.
