I just saw this tonight. Came as a surprise to me.
Years ago I was sitting in my rocking chair and Van pats me on the shoulder and says, "You're a hell of a guy, don't ever change."
I have remembered that down through the years. You would be surprised how many times I remembered that, and how many times it guided me throughout life.
Even though I have not seen Van in many years, I know where he is, and I know I will see him again.

Van was a man of many words. Many humorous words of life, love and affection. Van was never afraid to vocalize his opinions to those around him whether he knew the person or not. He loved to bust your chops and have fun with you. That, is one of many, reasons I loved him so much.
I first met Van about 10 years ago when I married his daughter, Donna . One thing I know for sure, he is loved by many. Through that imposing, stubborn front was a loving, caring, selfless man. He loved his family and friends greatly. He doted on his beautiful, loving wife, Ruth Ann, his wonderful children and grandkids like no man ever does. He was truly a man's man, a family man and someone I truly looked up to. I’ll be sure to carry on your legacy and never forget what a truly great man and great human you were. Herman was a man bound with inner strength and determination. His love and care for those who were family and close friends were second to none. We had many great times & laughs together! He will be truly missed. God rest his soul.
