George Allgaier's Obituary
George Allgaier, 57, of Tampa, Fl., passed away September 29, 2017. He was born in Houston, Tx., and raised in Temple Terrace, Fl.
He attended North Texas State University and graduated in 1985 with a degree in Saxophone Performance. He was a semi-finalist in the Thelonius Monk International Jazz Competition in 1996.
George was a devoted son, brother, companion, and talented jazz saxophonist.
George did not play the saxophone to make a living—he played it to live; it defined his life.
George never sought notoriety through his performances; other artists throughout the country knew of George and he was held in the highest regard by his peers for his playing.
Through his work with the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Outreach band, George touched thousands of kids through his playing. He had a sense for the audience and its ability to learn.
Besides his love of jazz, he will be remembered for his sense of humor, love of animals, as a mentor to many, and friend to all.
George is preceded in death by his mother Dorothy, and is survived by his father John Allgaier, brother John and sister in-law Cheri, sister Diane, companion Karen Benjey, nieces and nephew, Stephanie, Melissa, Johnny; aunt, Louise Barkley, and several cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
