I was so sorry to hear about the passing of George, I played in the HCC big band with him and he was a superstar in that band. He was a year ahead of me and I think he was 19 years old at the time. He wrote and arranged a couple of tunes for our band and they were so well done. He really was a musical genius.
I believe he switched to saxophone from trumpet as his main instrument when he got out of high school. He was so good on saxophone that he won best soloist in the community college division and we won best jazz band in that same division when our HCC Big band competed at the tri-state Jazz festival at Florida State University back around 1980.
George was a very cheerful person and always very funny and a very good guy and he will be missed by many.

Was just thinking of George. A gentle Giant of a genius musician. I remember the first time I saw him play with a local Tampa Big Band (Ralph Loveday’s). His solo was so well put together…never forgot that. Was always great to hear and see him. Almost recorded with him but had to cancel when I moved out West. Yes, just thinking of George, searched his name and found this obit. Rip George. You deserve to be remembered and listened to.
