Dr. Frank M. Byers, a widely known and respected thoracic/vascular surgeon in St. Petersburg, died at home on June 2, 2009. Born in Bridgeport, CT in 1933, he moved to Florida with his parents and graduated from St. Petersburg Hig Read Obituary
Our condolences go out to Robert and Patty.I worked for Dr. Byers for 25 years and truly knew what a fantastic surgeon he was. He was wonderful to my family and we enjoyed many boating outings with him over the years. It was a sad day in 1998 when he retired but I know he was happy! He will truly be missed.
Frank was one of my favorite classmates at St. Pete High School. He loved to play tricks on me. Once, when I wasn't looking, he cut a slit in the bottom of my pocketbook and filled it with confetti. As I walked from the room and down the hall I left a bright shiny trail to his great amusement.

Frank's greatest legacies are his stellar reputation as a physician and his son, Robert, such a fine young man. I also like to think that Frank's influence was, in part, responsible for my own daughter, Julia Kaufman, M.D., becoming a physician. He will be greatly missed by us.
Frank was a dearly loved friend for many years. We were fellow boaters and enjoyed so many good times. South Seas Plantation was always a favorite destination. Although I have not seen Frank for many years now, he will be missed. My condolences to all who loved him.
