Edythe Marianne Nelson's Obituary
It’s with a deep sense of sadness that we announce the passing of Edythe Marianne Nelson on September 12, 2022, at the age of 75.
She was born on June 21, 1947 in Philadelphia, PA, and was raised in Ft Lauderdale where she attended St Anthony’s Catholic School and graduated from St Thomas Aquinas in 1965. Marianne moved to St Petersburg in 1976.
She married her high school sweetheart, Alfred Ferdinand Nelson whom she was a devoted partner to for 55 years.
She was a longtime member of the Catholic Church and a youth minister with multiple parishes in both Ft Lauderdale and St Petersburg for over twenty years.
Nana, Prinnie, Princess… A woman with many names lovingly given to her by family and friends, Marianne was the heart of her household which constantly grew as her doors and arms were always open to anyone who crossed her path.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend, always ready with a hug and a warm cup of tea. Marianne was a generous gift-giver, a creative maker, a joyful hostess during the holidays, and an avid traveler with trips spanning from Alaska to Australia.
In addition to her husband, Al, she is survived by her loving children, Alfred Nelson III, Adam Nelson, and Julie Nelson Chorney; their partners Raquel Nelson, Paul Chorney, and Ashleigh Sheridan; her grandchildren Zachary and Aidan Nelson; and her three brothers, Michael Baxter, Kevin Baxter, and Kenneth Baxter and their families. She was a loving aunt and adopted grandmother to many nieces and nephews. She was a treasured member of her family and she will be missed deeply.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make donations to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul https://ssvpusa.org/ in her name. Marianne was directly impacted by the generosity of the organization and was very passionate about the mission of their work.
