Mrs. Edith L. Nicholson Holmes' Obituary
Nicholson-Holmes, Edith L., 96, of South Pasadena, passed away at The Springs at Boca Ciega Bay on January 21, 2018. She was born in Evansville, IN, March 28, 1921. She had a full happy life until becoming a victim of the cruel Alzheimer’s disease nine years ago.
After 37 years of marriage to James Ivan Nicolson, she became a widow in 1983. In 1986, she retired from E-Systems (Raytheon), with 30 years as an electrical technician inspector, and Financial Secretary of UAW Local 298. In 2000 her best friend, Gladys Boyd Holmes died and in 2003 she married her widowed husband, Dick Holmes. They both loved to travel, and were always on the go. In 2004, Dick was elected Mayor of South Pasadena and she became the 1st Lady of the city. They served until 2009 when he resigned to become her full-time care giver. Dick says: ‘Ms. Edie’, had a gifted smile that was a joy to all that knew her.
She is survived by: husband, Dick; 5 children: Jackie Tabaka, Ivesdale, IL; Jo Nicholson, Largo, FL; and Jim Nicholson, St. Pete, FL; Doug Holmes, Concord, NC; David Holmes Atlanta, GA; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, at Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2-3pm and funeral at 3pm. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family is encouraging gifts to the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter for the Alzheimer’s Association’s ‘WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S’.
