Dorothy May Drake born on May 4, 1943 to Joseph and Eleanor Spalik, passed away on July 4, 2017 at the age of 74. Dorothy married Albert C. Drake, Sr. on December 24, 1964. They were married for 37 years. They had 3 daughters, Dawn Michelle Somers, married to Michael Leland Somers (deceased), Lynn Ellen Geiter and Jo-Ann Larkin married to Mike Larkin who was more son than son in-law.
Dorothy was blessed with grandchildren, Victoria Marie Stafford, Timothy Joseph Somers, Katherine Bridget Somers, William Michael Somers, Ryan Francis Geiter,
Sebastian Reid Geiter and Kimberly Ann Geiter. She was further blessed with
great grandchildren.
Dorothy attended Kean College and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught school before becoming a mother and returned to teaching in 1976 and retired in 2008. A teacher never truly retires and she continued to teach in the role she played in the lives of those she held dear.
Dorothy was a member of the congregation of the Palm Lake Christian Church in Saint Petersburg, Florida. She had a strong faith in God and found comfort in his word and the fellowship of the church.
Through the years Dorothy influenced the lives of many and loved with her whole heart unconditionally. She had a passion for music, reading and creating works of love for her family and friends through knitting, crocheting and needle work. She often donated such works to the patients at surrounding hospitals.
Dorothy May Drake, daughter, teacher, friend, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Rest in Peace Mom and know that your physical presence in our lives will be missed but we will always carry you with us in our hearts.
