Chester John Yungaitis' Obituary
Celebrating Chester “Chet” John Yungaitis
January 18th, 1950 – March 23rd, 2026
Chet passed away at home in Pinellas Park, FL, after a long illness, surrounded by the family he treasured.
Born in Brockton, Massachusetts, Chet built a life marked by hard work and loyalty. In 1974 he began a career as a corrections officer serving the people of the state at Norfolk State Prison, a role that fit his strong sense of responsibility. He lived with his family in the towns of Billerica and Wilmington and in 1999 he retired, leaving behind the snows of New England, relocating with his family to sunny Florida. He soon started another career in security at St. Petersburg College, working until his retirement in 2021.
Off duty, Chet loved the simple pleasures of a good meal, sports, spending time with his family, and taking on projects around the house finding great joy in working with his hands. Searching Craigslist and Marketplace, he was never able to pass up a good deal on a tool and if he wasn't at home, you could find him at his favorite toy store, The Home Depot. In his younger years he loved playing team sports leading to a lifelong fanhood of the Red Sox, Patriots, and Buccaneers always excited about the next game.
Chet is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Susan (Maienza), his sons Joshua, Matthew, and David, daughter-in-law, Rebecca, grandchildren Sadie and Silas, brother Edward, sister-in-law Joyce, niece Lisa (husband Jeff), nephew Michael, and great-nephews and niece Anthony, Owen and Mia.
Those closest to him will remember a man who was resilient, responsible, loyal, hardworking, and generous. Most of all, he was a proud and loving father who loved his family dearly and showed up for them every day. We will miss his steady presence, yet his spirit stays with us all.
