Betty Hill's Obituary
LEGACY
Betty was the 2nd born of Don and Vera Tyson, born in 1921. She spent most of her childhood in the small town of Piqua, Ohio. Betty and her husband Bill married and moved to Florida along with 2 young sons (Billy & Marty) in 1954. In 1956 their last child a daughter, Cindy, was born being their only child born outside of Ohio. She was always called their Florida cracker. After their first few years in Florida, they built a house in St Petersburg. Bill worked for Publix Supermarkets, rising into management. Betty eventually worked for Publix for a total of 17 years. Betty was a woman that loved to keep busy doing the things she loved - sewing, baking, and taking care of outside plants, especially her beloved spider plants. She was always involved in her kid’s activities, such as sports, dance, swim team etc. After retirement Betty and Bill grew to love traveling; going to Europe 12 years in a row for 3 months at a time, as well as spending a lot of time traveling the USA. She was known to bake goodies for anyone that needed a special treat, eventually baking goodies for the groundskeepers at Bill’s cemetery where they knew when she pulled up they were getting ready to experience something home made with lovin’ from the oven goodness! Some of her specialties were homemade doughnuts, sausage cake, cinnamon coffee cakes, strawberry shortcake, pecan dreams, various homemade pies, etc. Even when any workers would come to her house she would offer to feed them! Betty was also known as a great hostess. She would host several parties for her organ or sewing class, even up to the age of 90. When her new house was built in 1997, she had one of the bedrooms be designated as a craft room where she would continue to sew, and work on her many crafts such as holiday table runners that she lovingly gave away to people she deemed special to her. At the age of 90, her children surprised her with a hot air balloon ride and a surprise 90th birthday party with many friends attending, along with several family members surprising her that came to Florida just for her 90th birthday. In her later years, she became a Tampa Bay Rays fan enjoying going to the games sitting in the club seating area and eating the great food and watching her favorite player Evan Longoria. Also, later in life she became of lover of dogs, especially one named Princess, who even was laying on her bed when she took her last breath.
Of course, her life was spent loving her children that she was so proud of, and attending lots of events that her grand kids were involved in.
Probably everyone that knew Betty Hill would say she was the most caring, unselfish person they ever met. She would give you anything she could if you were in need.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Hill in 1997. Surviving children are William D. Hill, Cindy L. Nolen (Darrel) and Martin L. Terry (Chrystal). Her grandchildren are Christina, Michael (deceased), Troy, Dustin, and Collie Lynne. Betty’s great-grandchildren are Natalie, Michelle, Christina, Victoria, Bradley, Hunter, Alex and Romy. She also has great-great-grandchildren Quinn and Levi.
Visitation is Monday, April 16, from 4-6 pm and Tuesday, April 17, 11 am with a funeral service to follow at 12 pm. All this is to be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery at 5750 49th Street North, St. Petersburg, Florida 33709.
