Sara Catherine Green
May 31, 1939 - February 27, 2022
Sara Catherine (Kitty) Green was born in Ozark, Alabama, in 1939. She graduated from Union Springs High School in Union Springs, Alabama, in 1957 and furthered her education at St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg, Florida, graduating with an associate in science degree in child development and education, with honors, in 1993. Kitty was a mother of three, grandmother of 12, and great-grandmother of 18. Known to her grands and great-grands as Nanny, she was a loving caregiver and an important family matriarch. She had the best stories, the best laugh, and the best smile. She lived in Pinellas Park, Florida. In the 1970s, Kitty was a beautician. She cut her kids’ hair and probably gave all of her grands and many great-grands their first haircuts. Blessed to work with children, Kitty went on to teach at and direct Feather Sound Christian Preschool for 11 years. Through the many difficulties of life, God taught her that He is faithful. Seeing God’s faithfulness in her life gave her the desire to share God’s love with other women. Knowing her heart, God began to teach her through His Word. As He taught her, she began to lead Bible studies in her home and at church, and continued doing so for 30+ years. Kitty taught a Ladies Bible Study class called “Women of the Word” at North Dunedin Baptist Church. She also taught “Women Helping Women” and was a team leader for Kairos Prison Ministry at Hernando Correctional Institute in Spring Hill, Florida. The desire in her heart was for other women to know the unconditional love and faithfulness of Jesus Christ, to trust Him and seek Him with all their hearts. Kitty was preceded in death by her father and mother, William J. Beasley, Sr., and Mary Etta Beasley (née Blackerby); three sisters, Patricia Ralston, Nora Spilsbury, and Ann Young; a brother, William J. Beasley, Jr. and a son, George Hofstetter. Survivors include her uncle Robert Blackerby; sister Gail Beasley; brother-in-law Ray Spilsbury; two daughters, Cathy Markman and Sharon Kirkman; two step-sons, Ronnie Green and Jimmy Green; daughter-in-law Cindy Hofstetter; 12 grandchildren: Russell (Erica) Sittloh III, Shannon Sittloh, Loryn Markman, Jessica Markman, April Markman, Brandi Markman, David (Christina) Hofstetter, Elisabeth (Daniel) Klepper, Stephanie (Michael) Benson, Melanie Caplan, Charles (Megan) Kirkman, Rebekah Kirkman; 18 great-grandchildren: Ellie Brockman, Russell Sittloh IV, Kayden Clark, Kaleb Clark, Noelle Clark, Emma Hofstetter, Ella Hofstetter, James Hofstetter, Christian Klepper, Noah Klepper, Zachary Klepper, Ethan Klepper, Hank Benson, Sara Catherine Caplan, Jacob Caplan, Tyler Caplan, Riley Kirkman, Nolan Kirkman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
