He and his wife Shirley were members of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Ashland Ohio and Pasadena Community Church in St. Petersburg, Florida. Clayton worked at Mansfield and Rubber Company in Mansfield, Ohio for 30 years. After retirement, he and Shirley moved to Florida to be closer to their children. They loved Florida but he was a faithful son who always traveled back to Ashland to visit his mother, sister and families. He had a special hobby he enjoyed. A very dear friend taught him the art of caning chairs. He searched and collected many old chairs that he refurbished and re-caned seats. Our family has many beautiful chairs that were revitalized by his work. Another special treat was his homemade peanut brittle he made every year for Christmas. He always shared his goodies with friends and neighbors. Clayton was a stranger to no one, was always a helpful kind-hearted soul and loved his family dearly. He would do anything for anyone. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors. I am home in heaven dear ones; Oh, so happy and bright! There is perfect joy and beauty In this everlasting light. All the pain and grief is over, Every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever, Safely home in heaven at last.
