William T Lucas' Obituary
William Thomas Lucas, age 87, of Peru, New York, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, in Largo, Florida. “Bill” was born on April 19, 1930, in Akron, Ohio, to Reginald Lucas and Muriel (Jones) Lucas. The family moved to New York where Bill and his sister Muriel attended Crown Point High School. After graduating in 1948, Bill enlisted in the United States Army in 1951 where he served his country as a supply sergeant stationed in Korea during the Korean War.
Bill began his career in 1956 with New York State Electric & Gas in Plattsburgh, NY. He served the “North Country” for thirty-six years as an engineer before retiring in 1992. Early in his career he met and married Lucette Cecile Poirier, of LaColle, Quebec, Canada. They had two children, Richard, also residing in Peru; and Lynda, now residing in Seminole, Florida.
Bill enjoyed playing baseball and basketball for his high school, fishing with his family, and bowling for the American Legion where he was a Post 20 member. Bill and Lucette also enjoyed retirement as “snowbirds” in Florida while sharing their time between kids.
Bill is pre-deceased by his mother (1972), his father (1982), and his sister (2005). Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, his son, grandson Taylor, his daughter and her husband James Van Brocklin of Seminole, Florida. He is also survived by his brother-in-law James Searles and nieces and nephews Billy, Willa and Tom of Georgia, and Pam and Robin of New York.
Bill’s final resting place will be near his parents in St. Petersburg, Florida, following a private memorial on Monday, June 19. William served his country and his family with respect and dignity. He was cherished and will be missed. Memorial Park Funeral Home
