Bill worked in a team under contract to the Dept of Veterans Affairs. I worked with him at the VA here for about 5 years until his last October when he began medical treatments. We were anticipating his return. I can't recall anything he was not completely passionate about that didn't have both his feet in and fully committed. He could win a 'name that tune' contest in 2 notes and had a wicked memory about all obscure trivia about music, movies and other entertainments that most people could not challenge. At times he was one big pain in my ass with that same passion when he disagreed but at all times, given the request to run with something, run he did until he was satisfied it was completed to his standards and I would be surprised if he didn't do that in every aspect of his life. His commitment to others in his life which he spoke about, and his charities and other activities were all total commitments. In learning about Bill from a professional perspective, his resume showed a man who was not afraid of challenges, unknowns, or foreign places/experiences. When he spoke of his time in the middle east he spoke with great hindsight of the trepidation and exhilaration of what he had been faced with adapting to. I think both emotions are what I can say I saw in Bill that he fought and won every day... moments of uncertainty followed by enthusiasm followed by exhilaration. While Bill exuded confidence from all pores he had his moments when he let you in to the other side of his public face and those were the most valuable moments I had with Bill, learning what was most important to him, sharing where his passion came from, hearing what he wanted you to understand about him, and what he committed his life to. I hope his commitment to his ideals and his causes found their way into a equally impassioned new custodian as he moved on to still another new unknown experience and that he found exhilaration when all was done. My condolences to his father, who I know was with him through these last few months and who meant a great deal to him.
