Weston H. Lopez's Obituary
Lopez, Kate Weston Hawley, died at home on the grounds of Westminster Suncoast Manor surrounded by her immediate family on February 6, 2008, at age 94 and 11 months. Weston, as she preferred to be called, was born on March 9, 1913, in Floyd, Virginia. Her parents were John Horace and Della Underwood Hawley and she was the youngest of six siblings. Weston graduated from West Nottingham Academy, Colora, Maryland in the class of 1930. She then attended Beacom Business College in Wilmington and worked in marketing for AT&T for several years before she wed S. Henry Lopez. She was active in the Episcopal Church throughout her life serving on vestry, altar guild, Sunday school and the presidency of the Women of St. Andrew's ' Wilmington, Delaware, St. Peter's - Lewes, Delaware and St. Bartholomew's ' St. Petersburg, Florida. For many years she served as the first woman trustee of West Nottingham Academy and while she lived in Wilmington was very active as chair and member of the board of Wilmington Garden Day and St. Michael's Day Nursery.
In 2006, she was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, S. Henry Lopez. She is survived by three children: John Hawley Lopez of Durango, Colorado, Thomas Marsh Lopez of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Linda Weston Lopez of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; two grandchildren, John Paul Guillen Lopez of Shanghai, China, and Dr. Katharine Lopez Weymouth of Wilmington Delaware, and one great grandson, John MacLaren Weymouth of Wilmington.
