Wada S. Roush's Obituary
Roush, Vada S., 98, of St. Petersburg died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 in St. Petersburg General Hospital following successful surgery. Vada was born in Griffithsville, WV but soon moved to Huntington, WV following the death of her mother, Eileen Edwards Spurlock. She attended Huntington schools and graduated from Marshall College with a BS degree in math. Marring Everett N. Roush, Jr. in June of 1931 they moved to Charleston, WV where during WWII she began teaching math and algebra at Lincoln Junior High School, remaining for 11 years. Moving to St. Petersburg in 1959, she continued teaching at Pinellas Park Junior High School and caring for her ill husband. They joined Palm Lake Christian Church where following her husband's death in 1968, she became active with the church choir, arts and crafts, Decaders Class, Keenagers, Lydia Group / C.W.F. and for many years represented Palm Lake in the St. Pete Church Women United. Vada had a great interest and talent in creating original Christmas ornaments and decorations, and in dried flower arrangements for friends and the yearly church bazaar. She was also active in the St. Petersburg - West Virginia State Society, serving as treasurer for over 20 years. Vada fought through several fractures and illnesses over the past 11 years, but beginning in late April 2008, with heart and blood pressure problems, she could no longer walk with her walker, requiring rehabilitation at Menorah Manor in St. Petersburg. Vada was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Ethel Joan Roush Harper of St. Albans, WV and all of her siblings. Survivors include; son, Dr. Everett N. Roush, III of St. Petersburg; grandson, James Patrick Harper and his wife Nancy of Kingwood, TX; granddaughter, Jane Ann Harper Davis of Chesapeake, WV and son-in-law, John P. Harper of St. Albans, WV.
