Virginia A. Rankin's Obituary
Rankin, Virginia Ailstock of ST. Petersburg, Florida, died July 18, 2013. A native of St. Petersburg, Virginia was born at Mound Park Hospital on March 25, 1926, the child of Cornelius W. Ailstock and Bernice Hire Ailstock. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1943 and went on to earn her B.A. degree in English Literature from Florida State College for Women/ Florida State University in 1947. Virginia worked many jobs before her first job as a legal secretary to attorney, W. K. Zewadski. Bill, also a pilot, later taught Virginia to fly, and she kept her pilot's license until 1962. Her career as a legal secretary spanned several years in which she worked with many St. Petersburg attorneys. In 1973 Virginia married Herb Rankin. Virginia had an active role in her church, teaching Sunday School for 25 to 30 years at Pasadena Community Church, playing the violin in the Church Orchestra for 11 years, and acting as a librarian for the Church Orchestra for 7 years. Through the years, Virginia had many hobbies, some of which included figure skating, reading, music, and her cats. Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Herb Rankin. She is survived by her step-son, Raymond Rankin, many friends, including very good friend, Joanna Storer, numerous cousins, and her beloved cats.
