Tony Craig's Obituary
Tony Craig took his final breath on March 3rd, 2023 signing off with, “I LIVED”.
On December 16th, 1963 Tony was born to Gail and Wendell Craig in Fairfield, Illinois. Early in his childhood he proved to be a natural leader. Upon graduating high school he parlayed his leadership skills and mechanical inclinations for something a little more adventurous and enlisted in the Air Force. After his service and Desert Storm tour he decided its was time for a new chapter. This then led him to the Disabled American Veterans of which he starting in 1994. During his 25 years with the DAV his professionalism would aid in the collection of accolades and positions such as State Commander and National Service Officer of Indiana. However, it was his kindness, compassion for others, and gentle spirit that has left the most lasting impression on family, friends and associates. Many would tell you he was a “sweet soul”. His favorite thing to do was to fish. Many a person would line up for some fresh fish, yet the lion’s share was always prepped and prepared for family at the yearly reunion during Father’s Day weekend. Survived by him are his daughter Kristin Craig, daughter in law Maria Jimenez and son, Calvin Craig. He relished his role as Grandpa to Valentino, Vera, Catalina, Julian, Amara and Alaina. Left with decades of fond and colorful memories are his siblings Kim Osuch from Port Saint Lucie and Jerry Craig from Fort Myers. Among those closest is also his loving companion Jackie Graham. Tony faced his death and his mortality, as he did with his life, face on, yet always quick to divert attention away from his cancer or health. To have you worry about him or fret would have gone against his code and beliefs. A celebration of his life be held at Memorial Park in St. Petersburg, Florida on March 21st. Details regarding times and addresses will be noted below. His final resting place will be alongside fellow Veterans whom he most respected at Sarasota National Cemetery. He will be properly interred with full military honors. Everybody has a Tony story and we’d love to hear them all. Immediately following the Bay Pines ceremony the family and all who would like to join will be gathering at the American Legion on Madeira Beach just off the water where he too would want us to celebrate him.
