Thomas R. Lang Sr.'s Obituary
LANG, Thomas R. "Tom" 86, died March 7, 2013, in St. Petersburg, FL. Tom was born in Summerhill, Pennsylvania on June 10, 1926. Tom graduated from Johnstown High School, class of 1943. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army, 1944-1946, was deployed to Europe and Asia; he earned the rank of Technical Sergeant. Tom received his BS degree in Education in 1957 from State Teachers College, Indiana, PA. He also earned his Master's Degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, PA in 1963. Tom moved his young family to St. Petersburg in 1963 when he took a position at St. Petersburg Junior College (SPJC). Tom subsequently taught and served as program director in business administration as well as being involved in many other aspects of SPJC until his retirement in 1989. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Pearl (Sherbine) Lang; they celebrated 62 years of marriage Nov. 2012. Also survived by sons, Thomas R. Lang II, St. Petersburg and Douglas B. (Diane) Lang, Palmetto; two precious granddaughters, Sydney Diane and Mackenzie Blue Lang, Palmetto; brothers, Joseph (Lois) Lang, John "Jack" (Sally) Lang; sisters, Eleanor Snyder, and Mary Jean Boyle. Tom is preceded in death by brothers, Alex Lang, Jr., James Lang, and Walter Lang. Tom was a faithful and devoted Christian who found much joy in serving God. He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, dedicating 50 years of service to his cherished church. With a loving heart, a giving spirit, and gentle way like no other, he served as Sunday school teacher, member of his Share group, and served on the finance committee. All will remember his example of life. Memorial services will be held at 11 am Friday, March 15, 2013 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 4444 5th Ave. N., St. Petersburg, the Pastor Lynn Batista officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church or Suncoast Hospice, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, FL 33760
