Mr. Theodore "Ted" Raleigh Wall's Obituary
Lt. Col. Theodore (Ted) Raleigh Wall, USMC, (Ret.) Ted Wall passed away on December 5, 2012. He was preceded in death by his father, Raleigh Rutherford Wall, and his mother, Margaret Young Wall. He was born in Forest City, NC on April 9, 1925. He joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. As a Sergeant he served as a turret gunner on a TBM-3 Torpedo Bomber. He flew 70 combat missions and was awarded eleven Air Medals and three Distinguished Flying Crosses. For his efforts in the War, he was inducted into the Enlisted Combat Aircrew Roll of Honor at the Maritime Museum aboard the USS Yorktown, in Mt Pleasant, SC in 2007. Ted was married December 27, 1949 to Mary Jean Jarrett (MJ), of Shelby, NC. They enjoyed a life filled with love, children and grandchildren. After the War, he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina. Ted then returned to the USMC until he opted for early retirement as a Lt. Colonel in 1967 while teaching at The Command and Staff College, Marine University, in Quantico, VA. Ted and MJ moved throughout the United States, as he pursued his career in the Marine Corps. MJ preceded Ted in death on their 59th wedding anniversary. Ted received the Presidential Unit Citation and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. He was a graduate of the US Air Force Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base, in Montgomery, AL. He served in various command and staff positions including Task Force 79, US 7th Fleet, and the US Strike Command at MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL. Upon returning to St Petersburg, Ted worked for Taco Bell Corporation and Sears before completing his career as the Postmaster for Admiral Farragut Academy. He was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Clearwater, FL. Ted remained active in Kiwanis Club activities, throughout the local community and the state of Florida. He served as Past President of a local Kiwanis Club and as Past Lt. Governor of Division 13 in Florida. His surviving family includes: daughter Mary Wall Johnson and husband Stephen M. Johnson of Houston, TX; granddaughter Courtney Johnson Anderson and her husband John Anderson, with great granddaughters Abbot and Charlotte and great grandson John Raleigh; grandson Andrew S. Johnson of Denver, CO; granddaughter Kristen L. Johnson of Houston, TX; son Bruce R. Wall, MD and his wife, Carol G. Wall of Dallas, TX, with grandson Alex Jarrett Wall and granddaughter Kathryn Rae Wall; daughter Margaret Caroline Wall of Wake Forest, NC; Ted Wall is survived by an extended family and close personal friends. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday Jan 19th, 1PM at Lakeview Baptist in Clearwater, FL.
