I want to share this story about Steve. I initially met Steve over 35 years ago working at the same company, but in different office locations. It took many years to really get to know each other, because of proximity. Over the years I discovered what a great person he was. I respected him immensely for the great devotion to his family, country and respect of others.
I left the company after 25 years and Steve was someone I continued to keep in touch with. We had very similar interests (we both were huge fans of Rush Limbaugh and Chuck Norris, etc.) and would have fun going back and forth with opinions and the developing news of the day.
The story I want to specifically share is about one of his Iraq overseas missions. Periodically, I would send a box with recommended treats, hand sanitizer and whatever was requested at the time. When he returned home from the mission, we met for lunch to catch up. In appreciation, he presented me with an American flag that was flown during combat missions into Iraq. I still greatly appreciate and cherish the gift. We also laughed when I saw the name of the Aircraft Commander listed on the certificate … "Jeremiah Johnson” … one of my favorite movies.
You will be greatly missed Steve.
