Mr. Stephen Arnold McGill's Obituary
Stephen Arnold McGill of Seminole, Florida, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 7, 2019. He was 66.
Stephen was born December 19, 1952 in Wichita Falls, Texas; the beloved son of the late Ernest and Mary McGill. He was a well-respected member and leader within the professional ballroom dance community for 27+ years. He began his career as a dancer and started his teaching career with the FADS in 1970 where he was the recipient of the “Freddy” Award. For over 10 years, he owned and operated his own independent dance studio and danced professionally in both American Rhythm & Smooth International Standard.
Stephen, along with his wife, Maria, owned and operated, “Designs to Shine”, their own ballroom dance wear company in St Petersburg, Florida. In addition to creating luxury ballroom dance wear, Stephen held multiple professional certifications as an instructor, adjudicator, competition organizer and most recently served as president of the National Dance Teachers Association of America.
Stephen leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 47+ years, Maria, and their son, Christopher McGill. He is also survived by his sister, Rachel White and his brother, Joseph McGill. Stephen will also be dearly missed by his faithful dog, “Sparkle”. He was a beloved husband, devoted father, dear brother and faithful friend who will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be 10am until 12pm, Friday, December 13, 2019 in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home 5750 49th Street North, St Petersburg, FL 33709. Graveside services will be held at 12pm, Friday, December 13, 2019 in Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Petersburg, FL.
