Mr. Stanley Pankiewicz's Obituary
Stanley Pankiewicz, 83, of St. Petersburg, Fl entered into eternal rest on Sept 20, 2015. He was born May 26, 1932 in Jersey City, NJ, where he grew up, and married Irene Kall in 1952. They lived in Clifton, NJ for many years before moving to St Petersburg, Fl in the 1970’s.
Stanley was a United States Army Veteran who proudly served in the Korean War.
The Presidential Unit Citation was awarded to a number of units which reinforced the First Marine Division in the Inch’on-Seoul operation. Thirteen Army units were included in the list of those given the right to wear the Navy version of the Army’s Distinguished Unit Citation. It is a horizontally striped blue, gold and scarlet ribbon to be worn on the right breast and is awarded for “heroism in action”. Stanley was part of the reinforcing units (4th Signal Battalion) which participated in operations against enemy aggressor forces in Korea from Sept to Oct, 1950.
He was retired from the military service of the USA after more than two years of Honorable Service in Dec 1951.
He later worked for the Veterans Administration in East Orange, NJ and Bay Pines Center in St Petersburg Fl.
On August 10, 1977 Stanley was nominated by the Bay Pines Center for the Outstanding Handicapped Federal Employees of the Year Award. The ability to overcome physical factors and meet the highest standards of a Federal Civil Servant are achievements which bring honor to the nominee and the Veterans Administration.
Stanley lost his wife of over 60 years, Irene, on Aug 21, 2014 and his son, Stanley, on Aug 1, 2014. He is survived by his loving family: daughter & son-in-law, Diane & Cy Stankiewicz of St Petersburg Fl; two grandsons, Stanley & Steven Pankiewicz of Pinellas Park Fl; two sisters, Lenore Brillo of California and Estelle Rothermel of NJ; and many nieces & nephews, great-nieces & nephews, and great-grand nieces & nephews.
He will be missed by many and his spirit will live in our hearts until we all meet again in Heaven.
He will be honored at Bay Pines National Cemetery on Friday, October 9th at 10:00am where he’ll share an eternal resting place with his wife.
