Mrs. Shirley Bates Burdge's Obituary
BURDGE, Shirley (Bates): 87 of St. Petersburg (originally from Bridgeport, Ct.) peacefully passed away on July 6, 2014 after a long illness. Mrs. Burdge is the daughter of the late Helen and Carleton Bates. She is predeceased by her sister, Jean Defranco Keating, her husband, retired Detective Wilbur L. Burdge (Bridgeport Police Department), and her daughter, Cheryl Ann Burdge Wicklund. Mrs. Burdge was a graduate of Bassick High School, and a graduate of the first class of The Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Burdge worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse until she retired in the late 1990's. She relocated to St. Petersburg in 1980. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Nichols, CT, and St. Vincent's Episcopal Church in St. Petersburg. Mrs. Burdge will be remembered for her quick wit and outgoing personality. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Burdge Simpson and her husband Ronald. Four Grandchildren, Ronald V. Simpson II, Carin A. Wicklund Roman (Adam), Kimberly G. Wicklund and Brandon L. Simpson. Four Great-Grandchildren, Brent D. Smith II, Jezelle A. Roman, Chase A. Roman, and Alexa J. Roman. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Suncoast Hospice, Clearwater, FL. A private memorial service will be held by her immediate and extended family at a later date.
