Sandra Swope Ellis' Obituary
ELLIS, Sandra Swope, 84, of St. Petersburg passed away May 2, 2023. She was born on September 26, 1938, in Bryn Mawr, PA to Morris and Dorothy (Taylor) Swope. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 61 years, Peter. She is survived by her children, Peter Ellis and wife Karen, David Ellis and wife Kesorn, and Diane Boake and husband Carl; grandchildren, Jordan, Jason, Jessica, Morgan, Brianna, Alex, T.J., and Christy; and great grandchildren, Gabriel, Elijah, and Adele.
As a child, she nicknamed herself “Sassy” because she couldn’t pronounce Sandra.
On June 21, 1958 she married the love of her life, Peter Ellis.
She was a devout Christian, Sunday School teacher, Artist, loving wife and incredible Mother to her 3 children.
She spent 28 years in Sparta NJ raising her children and serving the Lord.
Sassy always gave of herself and put others first. She visited church members when they were ill, she wrote letters of encouragement to those in need of it, she volunteered and gave of herself with every opportunity she had.
In 1990, she and her husband moved to Jamestown, R.I. She spent a lot of her time painting and was regarded as a local artist. She also enjoyed spending time with her husband sailing the Narragansett Bay and Rhode Island Sound.
In 1998, she retired with her husband to St. Petersburg where she lived out the rest of her life enjoying her family and giving back to her community through North Side Baptist Church.
Family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00PM on Saturday, May 6 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5750 49th St. N, St. Petersburg. A service will also be held in Pennsylvania at a later date.
