Roy Norman Young's Obituary
Roy Norman Young passed away October 25, 2018. He was born March 5, 1937, in Charleston, WV. Roy met and married Mary Louise McCracken on September 3, 1960, at George Washington University where he also earned an undergraduate degree in engineering. Afterward, he received a master’s degree in computer science at Virginia Tech. They were blessed with two children, Heather and Darren, and two grandchildren, Connor and Eric. Roy also has two sisters, Vicky and Iris.
A vacation to Florida caused Roy and Mary Lou to be attracted to the Bay Area and they decided to settle down in 1972. Later on, the Youngs transferred to Saudi Arabia in the 1980s, but kept their house in St. Pete and moved back in the 1990s. That is when Roy worked for the University of Tampa until he retired.
Roy cherished his friends and family in the Bay Area and in the Appalachians. He was a member of the Boca Ciega Yacht Club, a fan of Virginia Tech., enjoyed dancing, and loves his friends at the Mainlands in Pinellas Park.
Services will be at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 1200 Snell Isle Blvd. NE, St. Pete, FL 33704, on November 5 at 4:00 PM.
