Once, in my 20’s, while home visiting from college, I was walking down the street, towards the fire station and saw Ron walking in the same direction, so I decided to walk with him. He was on his way to Sonic to get Pam a Lime-Aide, or something along those lines. He told me he did that often; so I walked with him the entire way there and back, just catching up and having conversation. Somehow it got around and back to my mom that some ‘strange old man’ led me away from the neighborhood 🤣🤷🏻♀️ … for sure the most memorable interaction with Ron. It was one of the only times we ever just chatted, and it had to be for over an hour. When I got back to my parents house I found out they ‘were worried and searching for me’ … the look on their faces when I told them ‘ I WAS WITH RON PUTNAM!!?? 🙄’
That interaction and conversation definitely made me see him in a different light. He wasn't just my friend’s dad, he was a kind man with lots of stories and insight, additionally, I thought it sweet that he chose his evening walk to be to somewhere where he could bring something home for his wife.
