Robert Philippi's Obituary
Philippi, Robert "Bob, 80, of Madeira Beach, died Sunday night at Woodside Hospice of Pinellas Park. He was born December 9, 1930 in Mineola, New York, son of the late George and May Philippi (Broster). Bob resided in Troy, N.Y., for much of his life, remaining there after he attended and graduated from the School of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, class of 1952. He moved to Madeira Beach in 1983. He practiced architecture for over 50 years, first as the principal architect in the firm Philippi Associates, in Troy, New York, and later in Saint Petersburg, Florida. In 2008 he joined the firm Envision Architects in Saint Petersburg as a partner. He was an active member of the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, and was involved with numerous community organizations including the Madeira Beach Yacht Club Association, the Madeira Beach planning board and the Boy Scout of America. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, and retired from the United States Naval Reserve as a Commander. An avid sports fan, Bob cheered faithfully for the Bucs, Rays and Lighting. Surviving family members include daughter, Lori Lossi and son Reed Philippi, both from Troy, New York, and three grandchildren, Taylor Philippi, Blake Philippi and Sarah Lossi. The visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 20, 2011 from 5-7PM. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the American Cancer Society.
