Robert I. Deveney's Obituary
Robert I. Deveney (1943-2026) 82 of St. Petersburg, Florida passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026. Robert, affectionately known as Bob, was born in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Robert and Dorothy Deveney. Bob grew up in Claymont, Delaware where he attended Archmere Academy. At Archmere, Bob excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. He was a proud member of the 1960 undefeated football team. He was named Best Athlete for his graduating class of 1961. Bob was later inducted into the Archmere Sports Hall of Fame for all three sports.
After high school, Bob attended St. Joseph University to play basketball. He also served in the Delaware Army National Guard from 1965 to 1971. He had a career in sales and retired working with his brother Bill.
Bob had a great personality and was fun to be around. He enjoyed playing golf and watching his Tampa Bay Lighting. His greatest passion was going to watch the activities of his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan Deveney. Son Douglas Deveney (Kathleen), daughter Patricia Adams, brother William Deveney (Natalie), and sister-in-law, Debra Deveney. Grandchildren Tyler Healey, Alyssa Healey, Amanda Ellis, David Adams (Abigail), Bobby Adams, Kathryn Deveney, Kylie Deveney, and one great grandchild, Cooper Adams.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Deveney, daughter, Dawn Deveney, and brother, Thomas Deveney.
Services in Florida will be held on February 7, 2026, 1:00 pm at Memorial Park 5750 49th Street N St. Petersburg, Fl 33709.
Services in Delaware will be held on February 21, 2026, 12:00 - 3:00 pm, at Deerfield Golf Club, 507 Thompson Station Rd., Newark, DE 19711.
