Mr. Robert E. Cooley's Obituary
Robert (Bob) E. Cooley of Largo Florida passed away Tuesday July 9th, 2019 at Morton Plant Hospital due to ongoing health issues. He was 82 years of age.
Bob was born July 18th, 1936 in Detroit Michigan to the late Donald and Eleanor Cooley. He was preceded in death by his beloved sisters Phyllis Rich and Donna Olson. Bob is survived by former spouse Mary Cooley (St. Petersburg Florida), a son, Stephen Cooley (Largo Florida), a daughter Sharon Cooley (Seminole Florida), brothers Jerald Cooley (Cadillac Michigan) and Kenneth Cooley (Cadillac Michigan), and a sister Dolores (Dodie) Beauman (Cadillac Michigan). Bob was a loving Grandfather to three grandchildren, Christopher Portwood, Heather Abbott, and Logan Cooley. In addition, He is survived by two great-grandsons Tyler Portwood and Evan Portwood.
Bob served his country honorably as a member of the United States Air Force performing the duties of an Avionics Technician in the Air Force’s Strategic Air Command (SAC). His main assignments were supporting strategic B-52 squadrons during the height of the Cold War. After leaving the service, Bob was employed by major aerospace companies such as Bell Helicopter, General Dynamics, and others before retiring from Raytheon in Waco Texas and moving to Largo Florida in 2003.
A memorial service will be held 6pm July 12th, 2019 at Memorial Park Funeral Home located at 5750 49th St. N. St. Petersburg, Florida 33709. Visitation with family and friends starts at 5 pm. In lieu of Flowers, the family is suggesting memorials be made in Robert (Bob) Cooley’s name to the St. Jude Children Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org.
