Robert Stewart Banks' Obituary
On December 18, 2024, Robert Stewart Banks went home to be with the Lord at the age of 80 years.
He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Barbara Couser Banks, his daughter Lisa Banks Dillon, Son-in-law Stephen Paul Dillon, grand children Bradley Charles Dillon, Patrick Stephen Dillon and Sarah Elizabeth Dillon and great grandson Cameron Oliver Fuentes-Dillon.
He was a devoted husband, father and great grandfather. Robert truly put his family before himself on a daily basis.
Born and raised in St. Petersburg, Robert decided after graduating high school to enlist in the military. Robert was a Sergeant in the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. He continued this service for 21 years and was stationed at multiple bases across the globe including England and Japan. Robert enjoyed being able to share these travels with his wife and daughter. The diverse experiences and wonderful stories live on with those he leaves behind.
Upon his retirement from the Air Force, Robert began working in the security area of Derby Lane Dog Track and continued in that role for the next 25 years.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren Bradley Dillon, Patrick Dillon, and Sarah Dillon. He never missed an opportunity to take them to a game or play a round of golf. In younger days he participated in bowling leagues with his wife and daughter. Robert thoroughly enjoyed sports, and he attended many Tampa Bay Rays games with his friends and family at Tropicana Field. He was also a lifelong Florida Gators fan and would attend games frequently with his parents. When not working, he loved to travel the US with his wife and friends. Robert left a lasting mark on his loved ones. Instilling in them with faith and the power of a strong work ethic. He always had a humorous comment or anecdote to share. Loved by his friends and family, he’ll be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
- Revelation 21:4
