Richard Williams “Dick” Reed (93).
Richard was born in Oakmont Pennsylvania February 10, 1926 and died October 1, 2019.
Richard was pre-deceased by his 3 brothers and 1 sister. He was married to Laura (Weisgarber) of Verona, PA on September 4, 1952 who passed away on May 20, 2017.
Richard is survived by his 3 sons, Floyd, of Winter Springs, Curtis, of Dunnellon and Scott, of Largo.
He served in the Army in Germany after the country’s victory and during the Allied Occupation and was discharged honorably in December of 1946, in time for Christmas that year.
He was a graduate of Carnegie Tech University (now Carnegie Mellon) with a BA in Mechanical Engineering and worked for Florida Power (Duke Energy) for 36 years retiring in 1995. He was Assistant Superintendent of Bartow power plant, and from there moved into the fuel department as a fuel supervisor.
Richard lived in St. Petersburg since 1951, designed his own home in 1956 where he raised his family and moved to Dunnellon with his wife in 2010. His final residence was at Spring Hills assisted living in Lake Mary, FL.
He owned a second home on the Withlacoochee river in Sumter County, where he enjoyed fishing with his sons and taking in the nature and beauty of Florida, fulfilling his lifelong desire to be a Floridian.
