Raymond "Ray" Nathan Cavness' Obituary
Raymond "Ray" Nathan Cavness Sr., 71, passed away on May 16, 2025, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was born on January 10, 1954, in the Bronx, New York, to the late John Gilbert Cavness and Catherine Viola Longo.
Ray dedicated much of his life to public service. He began his career as a sheriff in New York before serving as a correctional officer for 28 years. After retiring and relocating to Florida, he continued to give back to his community by volunteering with the Pinellas Park Police Department and providing security for his church, Calvary Chapel.
Ray had a deep love for sports and music. He enjoyed golf, bowling, and football, and spent many years playing softball. A talented guitarist, he often filled his home with music—and when he wasn’t playing, he could often be found watching his favorite show, Gunsmoke.
He is remembered by those who knew him as a great friend and an all-around great guy.
Ray is survived by his wife, Reina; his children, Raymond Jr., Rebecca, Toni, and Cassandra; his bonus children, A.J. and Rebecca; his grandchildren, Cohen, Sidra, Luca, Aria, Tyler, Jayden, and Autumn; his brother, Gilbert; and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his siblings, Terry and Richard.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 24, at 6:00 PM, followed by a celebration of life at 7:00 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
May his memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved him.
