Rachel Maria Schumacher's Obituary
Rachel Maria Schumacher departed this life on July 25, leaving behind a legacy of empathy, warmth and love.
Rachel was born May 4, 1976 in Tokyo, Japan, to Robert “Bob” Robens and Margareta “Gretchen” Robens while the family lived overseas. She lived in many places, including Arizona, Indiana, No. Carolina, Oklahoma, and most recently St. Petersburg, Florida.
Always a devoted and caring mother, Rachel leaves behind two children: Alex George Kuiper and McKenzie Ann Herron, as well as three grandchildren: Nyla Torres, Kalani Abreu, and Josiah Abreu. She is survived by siblings Rebecca Till, Ruth Robinson, Danielle Peterson (spouse, David), Judith O’Neill (spouse, Ted), Michael Robens (spouse, Elizabeth), and Mark Robens (spouse, Angela). Also dear to her were her ex-husband (and still good friend) David Schumacher and over two dozen nieces and nephews. She had many friends as well, whom she treated like family.
Anyone who knew Rachel knew her unforgettable smile and her wry sense of humor. She radiated a bright light of determination and empathy, setting the example for her children of working hard for the good of others. A pinnacle of the Robens family, she had a special gift for bringing others together, always finding a reason to celebrate! Rachel had a fondness for festivities and holidays of all kinds, throwing a welcoming Christmas Eve gathering each year.
Rachel’s loved ones describe her as a loyal mother and grandmother, and independent thinker, a lover of travel, a hard worker, a seeker of new experiences, a skilled agile leader, a creative mind, a positive light, and an impactful community member. She also held a special place in her heart for the beach, especially at sunset.
Though her life on Earth has ended, Rachel’s generous spirit and legacy will forever carry on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
