Oscar A. Estrada, 101, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025, in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Born on September 4, 1923, in Cusco, Peru, to Luis Alberto Estrada Galdo and Isabel Ascarza Pacheco, Oscar lived a life defined by integrity, devotion, and an enduring love for his family. From a young age, he took on responsibilities to help his mother support his household—an early reflection of the selflessness and strength that would characterize his entire life.
Oscar spent more than twenty years as a journalist with La Crónica in Lima, Peru. After moving with his family to St. Petersburg, Florida, he worked for the St. Petersburg Times. Throughout, he remained steadfast in his belief that love, commitment, and family mattered above all.
A man of quiet strength and profound family values, Oscar was always ready with a warm smile and a generous heart. He cherished life’s simple pleasures—reading, music, fishing, and above all, soccer. A skilled player in his youth, he carried his passion for the sport throughout his life, whether playing, watching, or proudly cheering on his children and grandchildren from the sidelines.
Oscar is survived by his five children: Oscar Estrada (Lydia Ayon), Jose Estrada (Robyne Grow), Ricardo Estrada (Sugledys Suarez), Daniel Estrada (Michelle Walker), and Rosa Estrada. He also leaves behind twelve beloved grandchildren: Alexander Roel (Antonette Nicholson), Diana Estrada, Rafael Estrada, Isabela Estrada, Danny Estrada, Mark Estrada, Michelle Estrada, Aliana Estrada, Michael Estrada, Anthony Harper (Acsa Cerritos), Shannon Harper (Jeremy Ballantine), and Chelsey Holdshoe.
In addition, he was blessed with five great-grandchildren: Vida Harper, Leonardo Harper, Anaya Harper, Amalie Harper-Ballantine, and Jazzlyn Roel.
A celebration of Oscar’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Memorial Park Funeral Home in St. Petersburg. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m., until the time of the service.
Oscar’s legacy is one of love, perseverance, and generosity. He will be remembered always for the depth of his character, his devotion to his family, and the lasting impact of a life well lived.
"A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered."
