Nancy Lay Som's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nancy Lay Som, age 45, on February 27, 2025.
Nancy was born in North Dakota on January 2, 1980. Her family relocated to St. Petersburg, FL, in 1989, where she has lived ever since. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1998 and continued her studies at St. Petersburg College.
Nancy was a dedicated senior underwriter at Transamerica, where she devoted over a decade of her career to the insurance industry. She and her beloved husband La were married in 2005, having been middle school sweethearts, and were looking forward to celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary this November.
A loving and dedicated mother, Nancy cherished every moment with her children, Kylon, 15, and Ava, 5. She found immense joy in their extracurricular activities and treasured the time spent with her family and closest friends.
Nancy is survived by her middle school love and husband of 19 years, La Som, and their cherished children, Kylon and Ava Som. She also leaves behind her grandfather, Chan Ros; parents, Seng and Naree Lay; brothers, Larry Lay (wife Sorigia) and Tarry Lay (wife Anne); mother-in-law, Socheat Som; sisters-in-law, Malay Som and Malinda Alsobrook (husband Joe Alsobrook); uncles, Sarin Ros (wife Navy) and Chak Ros (wife Rebecca); aunts, Sara Ros and Sarom Gascon (husband Matthew Gascon); as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Nancy was predeceased by her beloved grandmother, Yoy Chan.
Nancy's warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
A funeral for Nancy will be held on Saturday, March 8th at Memorial Park Funeral Home beginning at 1:00 pm.
