Nancy Ann Mitchell Fay, 91, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, learning, and compassion.
Born on December 4, 1934, in Logansport, Indiana, Nancy spent her childhood there before moving to St. Petersburg, Florida, where she later attended Florida State University. She earned her degree in education and devoted her professional life to teaching, touching the lives of countless students through her patience, kindness, and passion for learning. She later made her home in Houston, Texas.
Nancy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy came from those she loved. She was endlessly curious and found happiness in great books, science, and the beauty of the natural world. She especially loved the ocean, treasured evenings watching the sun set over the water, and found peace in nature's quiet moments.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Robert Wicker; her stepdaughter, Karen Myers; and her stepson, Robert Fay.
Nancy is survived by her devoted husband, Arthur Fay; her brother, Peter Mitchell; her daughter, Anne Leslie (Wicker) Mattson and husband, Charles; her daughter-in-law, Oralia Wicker, widow of her son Robert; her grandchildren, Jessica Solak-Baker, Douglas Solak, David Wicker, and Kelly Myers Marini; and her cherished great-granddaughter, Makenna Baker. She also leaves behind extended family, dear friends, former students, and many others whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
Nancy will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her love of learning, and her unwavering belief in the value of education. Her curiosity, warmth, and appreciation for the beauty of the world will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
