Myra Diaz-Perez's Obituary
On Wednesday, May 11, 2022, Myra Diaz-Perez passed away. She had been battling lung cancer with the assistance of the medical professionals at Moffitt Cancer Center. Myra also received tremendous assistance from her large family, neighbors, and many friends.
Myra was born in the Bronx to Alejandrina and Pedro Diaz; the third of eight children. She was a teenage mother to her daughter Madeline Ivette Garcia, and continued raising her daughter in the Bronx, until moving to Tampa in 1988. She was working as a Computer System Administrator for an insurance company when she met her husband, Orlando Perez. They purchased a home in Tampa and were married in St Petersburg in 1993. They later moved to St. Petersburg’s Historic Old Northeast. Myra was city and house-proud and enjoyed hosting many family and friends get-togethers. She decided to go back to school, and as a much older than traditional college student, she received a degree from St. Petersburg College. She enjoyed her many family trips and international travel. Her grandchildren Gabriella and Joaquin “JJ” were a great source of fun and adventure. “Lola,” as they called her, was an incredibly nurturing person, loved by so many she came to know.
She is survived by her husband, Orlando Perez, her mother Alejandrina Diaz, sisters Alexa Diaz, and Madelyn Crespo; brothers Rafael, Pedro, Jose, Raymond, and Bobby Diaz; daughter Madeline Garcia, and grandchildren Gabriella Prado and Joaquin “JJ” Garcia.
Funeral services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home located at 5750 49th St N., St Petersburg, FL 33709 at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 20th. The family will be accepting visitors starting at 1:15 PM.
