Sam Wood here, wife of Barbara Schmidt Wood. I came to know Monica and Don vicariously and personally through Barbara and her mother, Louise Schmidt. Barbara and Monica go way back to first grade and remained close friends ever since. A memory that always makes me smile is when Don and Monica drove their rented SUV over a huge 11,000 foot mountain pass and then took a shortcut their gps provided. The shortcut put them onto a treacherous impassable old mining road. It became so narrow that the trees prevented even opening the doors! They created a Clark and Ellen Griswold Family Vacation scene. They made it to Estes Park, Colorado where we loved hearing about their truly harrowing experience! Of course, we loved seeing all the pictures posted by Don. My deepest sympathy to Don and your family.
