Mr. Merle S. Parkhurst's Obituary
Mr. Merle S. Parkhurst of St. Petersburg, Florida and formerly of Tonawanda, New York, passed away peacefully in his home Tuesday, March 20, 2018 with his loving family by his side. He was 88.
Merle was born February 16, 1930 in Corry, Pennsylvania; the beloved son of the late Norman C. and Althea Parkhurst. He worked as a postal carrier for the US Postal Service and was a proud veteran of the US Air Force. He was strong in his faith and actively committed to his church serving as head usher at St. Jude the Apostle Cathedral in St. Petersburg and St. Amelia’s Roman Catholic Church in Tonawanda, New York. He was a beloved husband, a devoted father, dear brother and loving grandfather that will be dearly missed.
Merle is survived by his loving wife of 67+ years, Constance D and their children, Martin Parkhurst (Linda), Darlene Depriest (the late Jay 2015), Karen Miller Parkhurst (the late Tom 2016), Daniel Parkhurst (Lynne), Linda Harms and Ronald Parkhurst (Rebecca). He is also survived by his brother Alan Parkhurst (Delores); nineteen grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4pm – 7pm Friday, March 23, 2018 in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home 5750 49th St. N, St. Petersburg, FL 33709.
Mass of Christian Burial 12:30 pm, Saturday, March 24, 2018 at St. Jude the Apostle Cathedral 5815 5th Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33710.
Immediately following mass, friends and family will recess to Memorial Park Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with military honors presented by the US Air Force. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name are suggested to his two parishes, St. Jude the Apostle Church 5815 5th Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33710 or St. Amelia’s Roman Catholic Church 210 St. Amelia Dr., Tonawanda, NY.
