Maureen L LaRue's Obituary
Maureen L. Riley LaRue, 78, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2021 in St. Petersburg, Florida. She was the daughter of the late Francis C. Riley and Marion (Bittinger) Riley. Maureen was born on August 24, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan and moved to the Daytona/Ormond Beach, Florida area in 1972.
Ms. LaRue was a graduate of Stetson University in DeLand, Florida where she earned a M.A. in Exceptional Student Education in 1980. She also attended the Wayne State University School of Medicine where she earned a B.S. in Occupational Therapy in 1966. She worked as an OT from 1971 until 2008 in Detroit, Michigan and in various facilities in Volusia County, Florida.
Maureen was awarded a United States patent for her design of a Distal Joint Finger Splint in 1981. She was also published in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy. She was a lifetime member of the American Occupational Therapy Association.
Maureen was a loving, devoted mother and grandmother who cared deeply about her family. She was a loyal friend and a compassionate, gifted therapist who was a positive advocate for her patients. She had a keen sense of humor and enjoyed playing tennis, biking and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter Michelle (Fred) Bullard; son Steven LaRue; her grandchildren Conary, Caden and Meghan; her brother John (Karen) Riley and their three children.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Petersburg, FL on March 30, 2021 at 1 PM. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Executive Director Leslie Edwards & her team at Inspired Living at Ivy Ridge in St. Petersburg for their loving, compassionate care.
