Mary Margaret Swartzell's Obituary
Mary Margaret Swartzell first opened her eyes in Logansport, Indiana, and from that day forward her life circled tightly around family. Those of us who knew her felt the steady warmth of her kindness, loyalty, and compassion in every visit and phone call.
She was the daughter of the late Mary Jo Swartzell and Marion J. Swartzell, and she carried their love forward with quiet strength. Mary shared childhood laughter and lifelong bonds with her sisters, the late Dolores Swartzell and surviving sister Michelle Swartzell.
Family remained the center of her heart. She delighted in updates from her nephews Jim Galbreath and Bill Galbreath, beamed over her niece Laura Galbreath, and cherished her grandson Andrew Knapp. For many years, her partner Nick Ellis stood faithfully by her side, sharing everyday moments and gentle support.
Mary’s steady kindness showed up in small, consistent acts that made the people around her feel safe and valued. Her loyalty was quiet yet unshakable; once you were in her circle, you stayed there, wrapped in her compassionate concern.
She passed away at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, leaving a space that cannot be filled but can be honored. We will hold her memory close, speak her name often, and keep living the lessons she embodied—kindness, loyalty, and compassion.
A virtual memorial page has been created for anyone wishing to share a story or photo: Mary’s Online Tribute. We send Mary on her way with all our love and gratitude, promising to keep her spirit alive in the way we care for each other.
Services will be announced at a later time.
