Mrs. Mary Joan Putnam's Obituary
Mary Joan Putnam – Tarpon Springs Died peacefully on January 29, 2018 at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater from complications after a carotid surgery. Joan was born in Williamsville (Wayne County) Missouri on March 19, 1935.She attended local schools and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1956 where she was a member of the Tri Sigma National Sorority. Joan married Buell J Gimlin and they moved to St, Petersburg Florida in 1959. Buell died in 1992.They had two sons (David A and Alan E) who are deceased and a daughter (Monica) who is married to Jorge Macia. They have two children (Matthew and Megan). She is also survived by a brother Clarence Henson and a sister Betty McFarland and by David Gimlin’s children (Brandon, Carlynn, Morgan, and Christian) Joan married J Stephen Putnam in 2004 who has two daughters (Nancy Bentley and Wendy Woods) and one son (Christopher Putnam). Between Joan and Steve they had fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild at the time of her passing. During her long life Joan worked for over 15 years with Raymond James but most of all she will be remembered as someone who was always ready to help whether it was through her churches (St. James Methodist Church in St. Petersburg and Palm Harbor United Methodist Church in Palm Harbor where she volunteered for a time) or in her community where among other things she would deliver her special cookies or raisin bread to those sick or suffering. A memorial service will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Saturday February 10 at 4:30 with interment and a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity in her name.
